Today is Wednesday and I'm pretty sure I'm obtaining a good understanding of the term 'chemo brain'. If you told me something this morning, I've forgotten it. Well, actually, if you told me something 10 minutes ago, I've already forgotten it. I don't know why I step into another room. Was I going to get something, or do I just need to pee? Pee. That's it. I've got to pee. For Heaven's sake, don't let me drive. Hide my car keys. Never mind, just leave them in my purse. I will forget where they're kept anyway.
Today isn't as bad as I anticipated, so that's wonderful. The aliens are still in my head and won't leave their command post, so they're a pain in the butt. I mean brain. I already explained about my banana brain troubles. My right arm was swollen up like the Goodyear blimp last night and I gained 4 lbs. in 12 hours. Never in my wildest dreams would I think that would be possible, but I'm just that special, I guess. My arm was nearly back to normal this morning, so I didn't call anyone. Tonight it's back to it's old self again. I'll weigh myself in the morning and see what's up with that. My heart was racing last night, so it was probably working a little too hard trying to get rid of the fluid. It's back to normal now, too. The little gadget that was taped to my arm started beeping at me around 7 tonight. Then it turned a solid green instead of the blinking green light. A few seconds after the light came on, it started zapping me with something. I could feel the medicine. 45 minutes later, it was over and David took it off. There was a little needle sticking in me, so I told him to try and pull it straight out. Maybe it'll be a little easier sleeping tonight without that thing on me. It's the small things, isn't it? My mouth is a bit sore, so I've been rinsing with the special ingredients I was told to mix. I do it several times a day and it's not so bad. I'm fatigued, but that was a given, so it's low on the list. My bones are a bit sore and my oncologist put me on Claritin for 5 days for that. Who knew? I'm taking my nausea medicine on a regular basis and not skipping a single dose and so far that's working out fine. Hooray!
My friend, Laura, came by to visit me today. I hadn't seen her in a couple of months and I needed extra hugs. It was wonderful. I got a wonderful letter and a gift from my son-in-law's grandmother, Mildred. I've read that letter over and over. It was inspiring and made my day.
Storms are headed our way and we were told to expect power outages, icy roads, snow, and freezing rain for several days. Expect the temperature to drop below freezing for up to 90+ hours. Sooooo, I may not have internet to update my blog. Just sayin'. This is too freakin' cold for us! Courtney and family are headed here tomorrow and will stay through the weekend. 4 year old Grandson is sure hoping it'll snow and Grandpa will pull him around the neighborhood with the 4-wheeler. It'll sure be nice having them here. They can help us out a bit with cooking and some stuff around the house. My birthday is Saturday and David's is Monday, so it'll be a special birthday present to see them.
Patty, I had no idea of what all you had coming. It's really something the way you are documenting all this for us. You go through all the chemo, then you tell us about it. Thanks for the details and...Hang in there, Girl! Keep fighting the fight and stay warm this weekend. Snuggle up with your grandbaby! Shelley R.
