It's Friday. We left for the hospital at 11:00 a.m. yesterday and got home at 7 p.m. I was in recovery forever, it seemed. I went in at 11:30 and was released at 6:37 p.m. Exactly. Gads. That's a long time for out-patient stuff. When I got out, my lips hurt more than my back. They were swollen and bloody. They must have taken good care of me on the operating table with that tube stuck down my throat. That's never happened before. His name was Bill. I'm gonna remember him. He's on my hit list. He had absolutely no sense of humor, either. What a boob. All the other staff were extremely nice, but the last nurse of the day, in recover #2, had to be on drugs. She kept me there for 2 solid hours. I'd already been in Recover #1 for an hour. She spent the entire time working on the computer. Rarely interacted with me, and when she did, she was repetitive. I asked repeatedly for my IV to be removed so that I could go home. I finally got my clothes on and climbed back in to the bed, while she was there - typing away. I asked again when I was going to get the IV out because I couldn't get my top on with it in. She finally asked me if I was going home in my hospital gown. What?!? No. You need to take the IV out, please, so that I can get dressed. She was like a zombie, I swear. Pamela, in Recovery #2, at Mother Francis Hospital. Never get her.
David had a very boring day waiting for me, and it was extremely cold, so sitting in the car got pretty miserable. He finally came in after I'd been in recovery for so long. He got a bit worried. His presence didn't help speed things up at all. Dang it. He helped me get into the house and make me a protein shake. That's all I could eat because of my lips. I ate real food today, but it wasn't pleasant. Must. Kill. Bill.
I woke up this morning and needed help getting out of bed, but I soon got back in and 'slept' until 11. At least that's when I finally got up for the day. This afternoon has been better, but I took pain pills, too. I have my spinal stimulator on, so perhaps tomorrow or the next day, I will see some results. I almost didn't get to have surgery. The rep showed up with the newest rechargeable unit. No one told him I was supposed to get the non-rechargeable unit. Go figure. The nurse in charge has been out sick, so it was just a mix-up, but he hauled ass back to his office to get the correct model before I was wheeled into the OR. That would have been a disaster. My new unit uses blue tooth to communicate. It's really cool, so I hope it work. I'm all in.
Norwegian Cruise Lines are no longer requiring masks to be worn on the ship! Hooray! Jessica and I leave on 3/5 to drive to New Orleans to board the Breakaway for a 7 day cruise. I'm hoping I can stand in line like everyone else to board, and not have to use a wheelchair.
Toilet paper is becoming quite a commodity again. I think soon it will be come the preferred form of currency until this pandemic ends.
