5/22/22 Today is Sunday.  I'm pretty sure.  Holy Moly, I've been confused the past day or so.

First, let me say, I had an absolutely delightful trip to Idaho this past week.  I saw everyone I wanted to see, got updated on relatives, and got many, many wonderful hugs.  I wore my pressure suit twice a day, every day, and did pretty well.  The stairs were challenging.  I'm sure my brother and his wife could always hear me coming by the sound of my breathing, and my hips and knees complained, but it was SO worth it!!

Yesterday morning I wasn't feeling very well and was up at 4:45 a.m.  I couldn't go back to sleep, so just got up and wore my suit and then packed my suitcases.  When everyone else got up, I was already finished.  We visited the rest of the morning and they took me to the airport at 11:00 a.m.  I sat and sewed in the airport and the time went by fairly quickly until boarding time.  My flight was delayed, so I sewed some more.  When we got into the air, it took 3 hours to get to DFW.  I sat and sewed in that airport.  Then my flight to Tyler was delayed an hour.  I sat and sewed some more.  I was at DFW for 4 hours before we took off.  It's only a 30 minute flight home from DFW, but a storm was brewing in Tyler and I was hoping we'd hurry up and get in the air because I was watching the radar.  So was everyone else on the plane.  Several people were yelling, "Let's go!".  We had all the passengers on board, so the hold up was aggravating.  We finally took off, flew all the way to Tyler, and we could see the airport down below when the captain announced the weather was too bad to land and we were going back to DFW.  Really?!?  I knew David was already at the airport, and so was everyone else's spouses.  We couldn't text anyone, but I learned that 25 minutes after the captain announced we were going back, that they announced the news to the people in Tyler waiting for us.  Thoughtful, huh?  David took off for Dallas, but I had no idea.

When we got back, they said they'd bus us to a hotel, pay for our rooms and give us a meal voucher.  2 minutes after that announcement, they told us the rooms were all gone.  They said we could get our own rooms and they'd reimburse us $100 if we submitted a claim to Customer Service.  We'd have to find our own hotel, get our own transportation, and figure this all out at midnight.  Uh, huh.  NO.  The ticket agent told us we could go to baggage claim #37 to get our luggage.  However, the trams were not operating that late, so we walked to the opposite end of our terminal.  No luggage.  Now, by this time, all American Airline personnel had gone home.  No one in luggage, no one anywhere.  All the other airlines had staff everywhere.  We spent 1-1/2 hours trying to locate our luggage to no avail.  House phones, cell phones, security guards, staff at other airlines - nada, zip, nothing.  We were told if we went to a larger terminal, perhaps customer service could help us.  But the trams weren't working, remember?  So, we left the secure area and got on a bus.  However, the bus driver drove a little ways and then informed us that those offices were closed, also.  So, we got off the bus and walked back to our own terminal since that's where our rides were headed.  David showed up, I climbed in, and we drove home.  We stopped to get a sandwich at Buc-ees because David missed his dinner, filled up the car, and took off again.  We rolled into the driveway at 4:00 a.m.  I called the airline this morning and told them to find my bag and deliver it to the house.  It showed up 2 hours later.

The rest of my pressure pump was in that bag, so I suited up, sat through an hour of that, then laid down for a nap.  4 hours later, I was up again.  I got 3 loads of laundry done today and fed us both with what food I found in the refrigerator, and now I'm ready to go back to bed.  I'm exhausted and my body isn't sure what to do.

All that time I was sitting in the airport thinking I was gonna have to stay overnight without a bag, without anything to fix my hair with, and no clean underwear, I was angry with myself because this was the ONE time I didn't pack an extra pair of undies.  They don't take up much space, they weigh next to nothing, and I always do that.  But, I was trying to lighten my load as much as possible this trip because I had to carry my own bags.  Of course, David had his usual insight and said "why don't you just turn them inside out?"  Guys.

  1. good gravy! And that's why I don't fly Tyler any more. I'll spare you the details of my story of getting a delayed flight on the bigger plane, and missing my Tyler flight, along w/several other people. I wound up getting the last rental car and sharing the ride w/two people I had never met before in my life. And, no, I've never done that before or since. Everything turned out OK. Thankfully, my two companions turned out to be upstanding Tyler citizens. But, you never know. Now I have a membership at The Parking Spot so I can park, ride, and be delivered right to my gate every time. So easy. It's worth having my vehicle to be able to drive home from DFW instead of the alternative. So glad you had a great time and made it home safely!
