1/3/23
Holy Cow. It's 2023. When I was a kid, this was science fiction. Now I'm here. And old. It's Tuesday and this was a full day for me. I had a lovely Christmas with my family and then on the 27th, we went camping. Five of us and a border collie. The third night, we got a storm. A whopper. Lotsa rain. It did not dampen our spirits, though the RV was at capacity, +1, for sleeping. The tent we took was a soggy mess that night, so everyone moved inside. I'll sum it up by saying "I would do it all again."
Today I had a breast MRI in the morning and then steroid shots in both hips in the afternoon. They were overdue and I'm hoping I can walk a bit better in a couple of days. Tomorrow is physical therapy with my pressure suit, gloves, arm compressions garments, and all my wrappings. They are going to try and see if I was fitting correctly and attempt to get more of my swelling down. I'm wearing my suit daily, but it's just not cutting it any more. I have PT twice a week for the next several weeks, so it'll be interesting to see if it helps.
Next Friday, the 13th, I have an appointment at MD Anderson in Houston with the sarcoma specialist. We will spend the weekend with Courtney and help out because they are running in the Houston Marathon. 26 miles. Gads.
I have company coming in this Thursday for 5 days and I'm SO looking forward to seeing them. My nephew from Alaska and my best friend from my teenage years in Oregon. Her brother married my sister when we were in the 5th grade, so we share this nephew.
I just got all my Christmas decorations put back in the attic and the house all put back together. The outside lights were last. At least I got them all down on a sunny day before the rain started. I got a new Christmas tree this year. I chose one with no lights because I want to use my own. It's 7' tall. (Get a visual here) I had everything taken off the tree and only the lights remained. I have a long, double string of lights. I had 1/2 of them rolled up again and decided to moved the tree away from the wall to make my task easier. My left hand is full of rolled lights, so I use my right hand to slowly move the tree. I grab it and the top comes off and the bottom sections are teetering. So, now I have lights in my left hand that I Do Not want to unroll, and the top of the tree in my right. The tree, needless to say, did not move away from the wall as planned. No one is around to assist me, of course. So, I'm trying to precariously replace the top portion of the tree with one hand, while keeping the lights from tangling in my left hand. Remember, my tree is 7' tall. I, on the other hand, am 5' 1-1/2". This was a Kodak moment for sure. It would have been a winning video on that Funniest Video television show. After several unsuccessful attempts, I figured I'd just have to roll all the lights again, but by now, even those are a tangled mess. The remaining lights on the tree were all tangled now that the top portion was apparently facing the opposite direction of where it came off. However, one last valiant attempt proved successful and the tree was back together again. The removal of the remaining lights proved a bit more difficult, however. Christmas decorations - gotta love 'em.
