This ought to be a very interesting post to read. I had my eye surgery and cannot see squat. So, I will not be able to proofread this post for any spelling errors. I am just going to talk into my iPad and hope for the best. My left eye is my worst eye, and it’s the only eye I can use right now.
Surgery only took about 40 minutes, so that was good. She said everything went well. I had an IV with anesthesia, but I think it was more like anesthesia with a colonoscopy. I was asleep at first, but then I woke up in the middle of the procedure. She said that is normal, and I just needed to be relaxed. She told me if I felt any pain, to let her know, and they would increase the dosage. It hurt at one point and I heard her ask the anesthesiologist to increase my dose. I do not remember much, but I saw really weird things. Apparently, I also told jokes during the procedure, but I have no memory of doing that. They were laughing afterwards, and thanking me for my stories. I had a bandage over my eye for 24 hours, and then I went into my follow up appointment the next day. They removed the bandage and put in three different kind of drops. I was relieved to have the bandage off of my face, and the drops felt good at first. After about 10 minutes, however, my eyes started to burn. I was in agony for the next half hour while I waited to see the doctor. She immediately put some numbing medicine in my eye, and it felt better. She called in some ointment for me to use at home to help, but honestly, it does not do much good. I have antibiotic eyedrops I put in four times a day, and I am allowed to use the ointment as much as I like. I thought my eye would be better today, but isn’t it is extremely annoying. Most of my discomfort is from the stitches in my eye. my eye is still oozing gunk and is very bloody looking. It’s gross.
Geez, now, I can’t remember what I just said and I can’t read it. Poop. If I repeat myself, I apologize. I have to go back to Dallas next Wednesday for another follow up appointment with her. She said it would take 5 to 7 days before my eye felt better. Every time, my eyes open, things, jiggle, like everything is in Jell-O, or I’m underwater. I see the curvature of my eyeball, but she said that would gradually lesson every day. She said, most people feel motion sickness, because everything is moving all the time. it is truly freaky. My head was numb the first 12 hours after surgery. It was weird not being able to steal my hairbrush. I guess I was asleep when she injected that medicine. I am really, really glad for that.
I cannot wash my hair for another week, because I cannot get water in my eye. I took a shower this morning, but only because I have a handheld shower in my big shower. So, I can keep well away from my head with the water. I cannot go anywhere with a high altitude, nor can I fly on an airplane. I cannot get in a pool or a bathtub for a month. I cannot bend over at the waist for a week, and I cannot lift anything over 10 pounds. As the gas bubbles Disintegrate, fluid will slowly make its way back inside my eye.
I have been speaking very slowly and clearly, so I hope this post is readable. At least, I’m glad I have the option to speak into my iPad to do this, rather than try and type. I am not allowed to lay flat for a week. I have to be on an incline, so David found my old wedge for my bed, and I used that last night. I was not expecting to be in so much pain and discomfort, but the worst is over and I will begin to get better each day.
I wear a plastic cover that is full of holes at night. It is to protect my eye, so I don’t touch or rub it in my sleep.
