7/25/24 - Thursday

I think I got some of my dates mixed up, but can't be sure.  Sorry.

So now it’s Thursday and I get poked and scanned all day. Messages keep coming in from MyChart all day with test results, half of which I didn’t understand.  There was a steady stream of doctors from every department and several from my oncology office. They were all very nice and they all had the same questions. I answered the best I could.  One thing they all DID say was that I was very, very lucky. 50% of embolisms result in stroke or death.  I have had 8. One doctor told me I should go to Paris to the Olympics  and enter the race for embolisms.  I would be certain to win.  He was a hoot.  Now I’m getting shots in my stomach twice a day to dissolve my clots.  I’m on antibiotics via my IV drip and am taking steroids via IV. They are giving me cough medicine that seems practically worthless because my coughing is now at an extreme level. My head feels like it’s gonna explode so they keep giving me Tylenol for that. Whoopee. I’m well beyond that, but I can’t seem to get anything stronger. Apparently, it’s not going to be included in my chart, so I just lay there and picture my brains exploding all over the wall. They would probably cover all 4 walls because the room is so tiny. They throw in a few more drugs but I think it’s just to even out the cup so it doesn’t tip over. Breakfast came at 9:30 am and lunch at 12:30. 3 hours.  I’m not hungry yet. Dang. I should have eaten more because dinner didn’t come until 8:30 pm. They’ve got this down to a science. I have to eat left-handed because my right arm has everything on it. I put a napkin over my gown and by the end of the meal, I can just roll the napkin up and dump the contents into my mouth and pretend it’s dessert. There is as much food on the napkin as was on my plate. I’m just that good with my left hand. My left arm can’t have anything on it.  It’s a no-stick zone. I ordered a Pina Colada, but they never did deliver one. Can’t blame me for trying.

I had an ultrasound done on my legs and no clots were found.  The doctor said they came from my abdomen.  New place.  Wonderful.  All day was spent giving blood, taking vitals, and the endless stream of doctors coming to see me.  The monitor keep beeping and they finally just turned the sound off.  Good plan.  They could see it out at their station, so I wasn't concerned.  The constant alarm kept me awake, but then, I couldn't sleep for all the coughing I was doing anyway. My pulse was nearly always over 100 - 115, at rest.  Oxygen, 91%. If I closed my eyes and rested, the oxygen would drop to 88%.  Of course, then they would come in to check on me - so much for rest....
